Qtum is an open-source blockchain platform that combines Bitcoin’s UTXO model with Ethereum’s smart contract capabilities.[1] The project’s visual identity has undergone two documented phases: an initial refresh in 2017 and a complete rebrand in late 2021.
Design and History
At the beginning of 2017, Qtum commissioned the agency Codeine to create a website and a refreshed logo ahead of its upcoming ICO. The agency built the concept of the “Qtum Universe,” featuring slowly animated geometric shapes resembling galaxies paired with minimalist web design. The subtle redesign of the logo and new typography were intended to emphasize the technological profile of the company.[2]
In late October 2021, Qtum commissioned a design firm to rebrand the project as part of a broader expansion plan.[3] The rebranding effort included a new website, new brand design style, marketing team, and mascot.[3] On November 10, 2021, the Qtum team unveiled the new logo via a 30-second video, with plans to apply it to social platforms within one to two days.[4][3]
Prior to the logo reveal, Qtum announced that the new brand would accompany a new marketing team and upcoming roadmap, with the team stating they would continue improving the Qtum brand in 2022 and beyond.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
Official documentation of the current logo’s symbolic meaning is limited. The 2017 identity, developed by Codeine, drew inspiration from the concept of a “Qtum Universe,” using geometric shapes resembling galaxies to reflect the complex technology and numerous options offered by the platform.[2]
Typography and Design
The 2017 redesign by Codeine introduced new typography alongside the refreshed logo, with the agency noting that the combination successfully emphasized the technological profile of the company.[2] The current logo is available in official SVG and PNG formats through various crypto logo repositories.[5] [6]
