PTT Public Company Limited, Thailand’s national energy company, uses a flame-inspired emblem that has remained largely unchanged since it was trademarked in 1981. The mark combines a red circle at its center with surrounding blue elements, forming a stylized torch or flame structure.
Design and History
PTT traces its origins to December 29, 1978, when it was established as the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, a state enterprise created during the second world petroleum shortage crisis. Following privatization under the Corporatization Act B.E. 2542, the entity became PTT Public Company Limited in 2001. [1]
The company’s emblem was trademarked in 1981 and attained official logo status. The pictorial part of the logo has remained essentially unchanged since its introduction. [2]
The design was inspired by the discovery of indigenous petroleum resources in Thailand, with the emblem structured as a blazing torch. The mark consists of four elements: a bright red circle at the center, placed inside a dark blue drop shape, with additional blue layers surrounding it. [3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The torch structure symbolizes the country’s invaluable energy resources, with the three layers representing prosperity. The inner navy blue layer signifies the rich oil drop, while the red circle at the center represents energy. [3]
The flame motif has carried into PTT’s broader brand family. PTT Oil and Retail Business (OR), a subsidiary, describes its own logo’s flame element as representing “PTT Group’s enduring legacy.” [4]
Typography and Design
The PTT wordmark appears alongside the flame emblem in a bold sans-serif lettering style. In 2018, PTT Philippines introduced an updated station canopy design that combined the flame logo with “PTT Station” wordings highlighted in dark and light blue colors. According to PTT Philippines President and CEO Sukanya Seriyothin, the new design “was not a total departure from our original station logo that had the flame and the PTT acronym beside it.” [5]
Brand asset databases list PTT’s primary brand color as hex code #00AEEF, a bright blue. [6]
