Grupo Imagen is a Mexican media conglomerate operating radio, television, newspaper, and digital properties. In 2016, the company introduced a new corporate identity developed by the New York design firm Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, coinciding with the launch of its national broadcast channel Imagen Televisión.[1]
Design and History
The 2016 rebrand was undertaken in anticipation of Imagen Televisión’s debut as Mexico’s third national broadcast network, which began transmissions on October 17, 2016.[2] Grupo Imagen stated that the graphic identity and logo for both the new channel and the group itself were developed by Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, the firm known for projects including National Geographic, NBC, Univision, Mobil, and MoMA.[3]
The new symbol combines a blue circle and a red rectangle to form the initial letter “i” of the Imagen name. According to the designers, the mark also evokes a megaphone, highlighting the company’s central theme of inclusion and diversity by bringing together two fundamentally different geometric shapes to create a letterform.[4][5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The logo’s two contrasting geometric forms, a circle and a rectangle, are documented as representing inclusion and diversity, the company’s stated central theme. The combination of these shapes forms the letter “i,” the initial of Imagen, while also suggesting a megaphone, a reference to broadcasting and communication.[4][5]
