Fox Cricket is an Australian subscription television channel dedicated to cricket, launched by Fox Sports Australia on 17 September 2018 and available on the Foxtel platform.[1][2] The channel was created following a six-year agreement between Fox Sports and Cricket Australia in April 2018, which expanded the broadcaster’s previous cricket coverage.[2]
Design and History
Fox Sports revealed the official Fox Cricket logo in late August 2018, ahead of the channel’s launch the following month.[3][4] The announcement accompanied the unveiling of the channel’s commentary team, which included former Australian cricketers Ian Healy, Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy.[3]
According to Fox Sports’ own description at the time of release, the logo design “brings in the iconography of the ball and stumps with a modern twist.”[5] The mark was introduced as part of a broader “new look and feel” for the channel’s coverage of the Australian summer of cricket.[5]
The channel launched on 17 September 2018 on Foxtel channel 501, with the 2018 Caribbean Premier League final as its first live broadcast.[2][4] Fox Cricket operates as one of seven dedicated high-definition channels produced by Fox Sports Australia, a division of Foxtel.[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Fox Cricket logo incorporates cricket-specific imagery, namely the ball and stumps, rendered in a stylised, contemporary form.[5] Fox Sports described the design as “eye-catching” and intended to “grab people’s attention” as the channel positioned itself as the new home of cricket in Australia.[5]
