Polsat Sport 1 is a Polish sports television channel owned by Telewizja Polsat. It launched on 11 August 2000 as Polsat Sport, making it the first Polsat channel dedicated exclusively to sports. On 26 April 2024, the broadcaster renamed the channel Polsat Sport 1 as part of a simplification of its sports channel portfolio, with Polsat Sport Extra becoming Polsat Sport 2 and Polsat Sport News becoming Polsat Sport 3. The broadcaster said the simpler names would make navigation of its sports offering easier. [1] [2]
Design and History
The current Polsat Sport 1 identity descends from a family-wide rebranding of Telewizja Polsat channels. In 2021, 24 Polsat channels, including all sports channels, received new logos and on-air identities on 30 August. The creative concept was based on animated sun rays, a shared element across all new channel logos. The rays form an identical pattern for every station but appear in each channel’s dedicated color scheme, giving the channels a cohesive visual identity while preserving individual character. The logos gained visual depth through three-dimensional animation. [3]
The 2021 rebranding was prepared by the German creative agency Luxlotusliner, with significant involvement from Telewizja Polsat’s own promotion team. The agency had previously created Polsat’s on-air identities and those of its thematic channels. [3] Luxlotusliner also designed the sports channel logos introduced on 10 June 2016, which used modular blocks with the channel name on colored backgrounds and a shared “SPORT” module with smaller “POLSAT” lettering across all sports channels. [4]
When Polsat Sport became Polsat Sport 1 in April 2024, the channel adopted a new logo reflecting its new name. The logo was presented by the broadcaster alongside those of Polsat Sport 2 and Polsat Sport 3. [1] [5]
Meaning and Symbolism
Polsat’s sports channels have used a blue symbol since at least the 2021 rebranding. According to reporting on the new logos, the sports stations Polsat Sport, Polsat Sport Extra, Polsat Sport News and Polsat Sport Fight were assigned a blue symbol, consistent with their previous appearance. [6] The sun-ray pattern shared across all Polsat channel logos is the common identifying element of the channel family. [3]
Typography and Design
For the 2016 sports channel logos, Luxlotusliner used a shared typeface across all Polsat sports channels, identified in the broadcaster’s announcement as “braun.” The design used modular blocks with the channel name on various colored backgrounds, with a distinguishing “SPORT” module and smaller “POLSAT” lettering common to all sports channels. [4] In the 2021 rebranding, the on-air presentation featured typography designed specifically for Polsat. [3]
