Polsat Sport 2 is a Polish sports television channel owned and operated by Telewizja Polsat, part of the Polsat Plus Group. The channel began broadcasting in October 2005 as the second sports channel in the Polsat portfolio. On 26 April 2024, the channel was renamed from Polsat Sport Extra to Polsat Sport 2 as part of a simplification of the naming of Polsat’s sports channels. [1] [2]
Design and History
The current Polsat Sport 2 logo follows the visual system introduced across Polsat’s sports channels in 2016. That year, Telewizja Polsat presented new logos for all of its sports channels, including the then-named Polsat Sport Extra, with the new marks appearing on air on 10 June 2016. The identity was built from modules carrying the channel name on different colored backgrounds. A distinguishing element was the shared “SPORT” module with the smaller “POLSAT” text above it, common to all of the group’s sports channels. The design was intended to be modern, clean and functional, allowing for easy expansion when new channels were created. [3] [4]
The 2016 sports channel logos were designed by the international design agency Luxlotusliner from Munich, which had previously been responsible for the visual identity of Polsat News and the “Wydarzenia” news program. [3] [5]
On 30 August 2021, Polsat introduced a new visual identity across 24 of its channels, including all of its sports channels. The creative concept was based on an animation of sun rays, a shared element in the new logos of all the stations. The rays formed an identical pattern across the channels but in colors dedicated to each individual station, giving the channels a cohesive new identity while preserving their own character. The new on-air presentation was also prepared by Luxlotusliner, working with Telewizja Polsat’s in-house promotion team. [6] [7]
When the channel was renamed from Polsat Sport Extra to Polsat Sport 2 in April 2024, the change was a naming simplification rather than a new visual design. The broadcaster stated the simplified names would make navigation of its sports channel lineup easier. [1] [8]
Typography and Design
The 2016 sports channel logos shared a common typeface across all of the group’s sports channels. The official announcement identified the font used in the logos as “braun.” The logos were described by the broadcaster as modern and dynamic while remaining clear and legible. [3] [4]
For the 2021 rebrand, the on-air presentation featured typography designed specifically for Polsat, appearing in the channel’s promotional materials. [6]
